I am Abbe Lubell, an artist living and working in Brooklyn, New York. I’m a mother, a painter, a designer, a runner, and a feminist. I paint the world and the people around me interwoven with the colors and shadows that exist inside my head. I am drawn to quiet moments, solitary people and objects, the feeling of loneliness within a crowd. I spent a lifetime as a single mother with a full-time job as a designer, painting in stolen hours, mostly in the middle of the night. Now I am completely focused on my paintings, wandering in and out of the daylight, finding inspiration inside my studio and in my city.

My artistic goal is to lift your spirits and to surprise you. I want to invite the viewer in through the lushness of color, through humor, anger, suggestiveness, or the temptation to dive beneath the surface. I strive to depict joy, loneliness, longing, grief, and a recognition of the eccentricity within the ordinariness of everyday life. I paint in oil on panel or linen. I find the slowness of the oil paints dreamy and seductive, which suits my mood and my subjects perfectly.

Please contact me if you are interested in buying or showing any of my paintings.

I send you all my best wishes.
